The half nobody quotes
What Basetao inspection does not cover
Basetao publishes inspection scope and exclusions. Read both before ordering, because appearance photos cannot answer every question about fit, function or materials.
What is in scope
First, what the inspection actually is
On arrival at the warehouse, professional inspectors assess the appearance of the goods. The page names what that covers: colour, visible damage, stains, size, model and version number, checked against your order.
That is a real service and it catches real problems. A torn seam, a stain, the wrong colourway sent, one shoe instead of a pair, a model number that does not match what you asked for: all of these show up, and the photographs are uploaded the same day.
The important word is appearance. Everything below follows from it, and the planner is built on the difference between what appearance settles and what it cannot.
Three exclusions, in the order they cost people money
Each one is stated on that same page. None of them is a loophole discovered by us; they are printed policy.
Colour difference
Named in the scope paragraph and again in the note below it. The shade you receive is not compared to the listing photograph by anyone. Screens, warehouse light and dye lots all differ, and none of that is treated as a defect.
Actual size against the label
The size printed on the label is read back to you. Whether the garment measures anything like it is outside the scope. This is why the 1.5 CNY measurement exists and why it is worth using.
Whether electronics work
For electronic and digital products the inspection is limited to external appearance. Accessories are not checked for completeness, the device is not powered on, and the same paragraph states that functional issues are therefore not covered by the insurance policy.
User experience, in general
The note adds user experience to the excluded list. How something feels, smells, wears or sounds is not part of any check, and no photograph settles it either.
The sentence worth reading twice
Point two of the note says that if certain information cannot be verified, such as the absence of visible damage or stains, it will be assumed that you have reached an agreement with the seller.
Read plainly, that is a default. Where the warehouse cannot confirm something, the outcome is not held open for you; it is resolved in favour of the transaction going ahead. Which means the useful moment to raise a concern is before the item is bought, not after it lands.
The third point is friendlier: if goods are deemed unsuitable for shipping on arrival, a special note is added to the order to remind you to arrange a return or exchange.
What a return actually requires
The return policy is short and every clause matters. Most sellers accept a return or exchange within seven days from the day Basetao receives the parcel, and you are asked to say so as soon as possible inside that window.
The item has to be in its original condition, and the page is explicit that if you ticked the remove packaging option when you ordered, it is not. You pay the return shipping. And the home page adds the real constraint: returns and exchanges happen only with the permission of the seller.
None of that makes returns useless. It makes them a plan you commit to on the day the photographs appear, rather than a safety net you assume is there.
The lists that stop a parcel rather than an item
Two separate documents, and a find can pass one and fail the other. The help centre names what Basetao will not buy. The make a parcel page names what it basically cannot ship, and that list adds gun shaped products, lighters, computers, laptops, phones and anything over 1.5 m.
Nothing is checked against either list at the moment you press order. You find out later, when the parcel cannot be built, which is the most avoidable bad outcome in this whole process.
Next step.
- Judging a find turns these exclusions into a decision about one item.
- Help is where to ask when a page leaves you unsure.
